FSC Certificate Presentation to Muling by SmartWood

FSC-certified forests owned by GFTN-China forest participants have gone beyond 1,000,000 ha

In October 2008, 116,217 ha forest of Fujian Yongan Forestry (Group) Joint Stock Co., Ltd and 230,405 ha forest of Heilongjiang Muling Forestry Bureau have got FSC certification. Both of them are GFTN-China participants. Thus, FSC-certified forests owned by GFTN-China forest participants have gone beyond 1,000,000 ha, which marks a significant step for GFTN-China in its wide scale promotion of FSC certification in China.

Amazon deforestation trend on the increase
Deforestation in Brazil's Amazon forests has flipped from a decreasing to an increasing trend, according to new annual figures released yesterday by the country's space agency INPE.  Brazil's government has meanwhile confirmed that it will be issuing forest related carbon emission reduction targets on Monday. » Read more

12% Increase in Post-consumer Wood Recovery
From NTPSG (Australia): The National Timber Product Stewardship Group (NTPSG) is well on its way to achieving the goal of one million tonnes wood recovery per annum following the recording of a 12% increase in the 2006-07 financial year. The recovery of post-consumer wood is estimated at over 530,000 tonnes in 06-07 up from 474,000 when it was previously measured. » Read more

FSC still the best
WWF recently commissioned an assessment of the two global forest certicification schemes, using the  Forest Certification Assement Guide (FCAG). Based on this latest FCAG assessment as well as other previous assessments, WWF concludes that FSC still best meets WWF's core requirements for forest certification.  » Read more
